Giant Food Stores announced today that it is recalling packagesof Uncle Ben’s whole Grain White Rice Garden Vegetable because theproduct may contain milk, an undeclared allergen.
Giant and Martin’s Food Markets received notification from itssupplier, Mars Food, that the packages may contain milk.
The product affected by the recall is: Uncle Ben’s whole GrainWhite Rice Garden Vegetable, 4.7 ounces, UPC 5480040778 with bestbefore date of 8/12 and code dates of 133BA4RP06 or 133BB4RP06.
To date, Giant has not received any reports of illnessesassociated with consumption of the product. Giant notes that theproduct is safe to consume for individuals who do not suffer from amilk allergy.
Customers who have purchased the product should discard anyunused portions or bring their purchase receipt to Giant for a fullrefund.
Symptoms of food allergies typically appear from within a fewminutes to two hours after a person has eaten the food to which heor she is allergic. Allergic reactions can include hives; flushedskin or rash; tingling or itchy sensation in the mouth; face,tongue or lip swelling; vomiting and/or diarrhea; abdominal cramps;coughing or wheezing; dizziness and/or lightheadedness; swelling ofthe throat and vocal cords; difficulty breathing; or loss ofconsciousness.
