its been three days now and my baby (14mnths) has had some allergy reaction to something (no clue what haven’t changed his routine at all) it comes up randomly during the day then goes away then comes back ALL over his body at night… The doc said it was just an allergy reaction to something he ate but the prescription medicine the doc gave us (two days ago) hasn’t really done anything… any ideas people? baby just gets fidgety and has a fever on the occasion… (as well as the hives… or whatever it is)
he wears only a singlet and a nappie.. when we go out I put a t-shirt on him but thats it…
I stopped breast feeding about 2-3 months ago and he doesn’t take formula just water…
Could it be a heat rash? Are you dressing him to warmly at night? I would go back for a second opinion if it does not go away. I would try to rule out foods or detergents that could be causing it. Did you recently switch laundry soap? The only time my kids got a rash like that was an allergic reaction to penicillin but it did not come and go.
ER, or another doctor soon. You never know what is wrong with sysptoms like that.
What are you feeding baby? If breastfeeding could it be something you ate? If formula have you changed brands?
If he is having a fever then it is probably not related to an allergic reaction to food or anything in his routine. He probably has a virus and a rash. The cream won’t help for this. There are a bunch of different kinds of viral rashes. A body can also get hives from an illness, Not much to do, just wait till the illness goes away.

One of my kids had chronic hives. They started at 13 mo and lasted till he was 2 and a half. Then continued intermittently till be was about 4. In his case, it was not an allergic reaction but was viral. Every time he was exposed to new germs (which is ALL the time at that age), his immune system reacted by breaking out in hives. The Dr had him on twice the regular dose of Zyrtec and it took about a week to get them under control any time he missed a dose.
During that first yr and half, he was only free of the hives for about 6 weeks during the summer. Eventually it got to where he only broke out if he actually got sick – particularly if he had a fever. He’s almost 6 now and hasn’t had any in over a yr. But when we were in the thick of it, the Dr said it could last up to 5 yrs.
Just keep giving him his meds and if it’s not clearing up in a few more days, go back to the Dr. You can request a scratch test just to rule out any possible allergies but chronic hives with no treatable cause are not uncommon.
